Silchar: University of Assam banned all kinds of events inside the campus without prior authorization.

Saturday's order by Sanjib Bhattacharjee, the University Registrar, states that "any rally / procession / dharna or any form of gathering of people or groups of people on the periphery of the university campus is strictly prohibited until further notice. "

The order further stated that "any unauthorized report, if found, will henceforth be treated as a breach of public order and the person or persons implicated in this violation will be held responsible in accordance with the rules". The order was issued with the approval of the vice-chancellor, he added.

The order comes after the university, during the last week, became a hotbed of protest. Last Wednesday, a gathering of torch was organized by students belonging to the Assamese and tribal communities at the event . The next day, a rally was organized by the council AU students to support the bill.
