The PLR, the Greens and the PBD are meeting on Saturday to give their slogan for the next vote or launch their campaign for the federal elections. Biel will host the PLR with Karin Keller-Sutter.

PLR Switzerland was originally scheduled to hold its Delegates Assembly in Geneva, but it was moved because of the Maudet affair. The party wanted to avoid that this file interferes too much in the debates and does not focus all the attention.

Last November, the PLR steering committee called for the resignation of State Councilor Pierre Maudet. Party President Petra Gössi had then had harsh words against the Genevese, entangled in legal wrangles related in particular to his trip to Abu Dhabi.

The PLR should not formally address this case Saturday in Biel in the expectation of the extraordinary general meeting of the Geneva section to be held on January 15.

New Federal Councilor

On the occasion of its first assembly of delegates of this election year, the PLR welcomes the new Federal Councilor Karin Keller-Sutter. The head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) will be attending this meeting of delegates for the first time in her new role.

In Biel, delegates will give their recommendations for future federal votes. They should reject the popular initiative against sprawl launched by the Young Greens. This object will be submitted to the people on 10 next February.

The party will also submit to a vote recommendation the Federal Law on Tax Reform and Financing of the AVS, as well as the revision of the Arms Act that derives from the development of the Schengen acquis.

Delegates will vote on the latter two items while the deadline for collecting signatures has not yet expired. But the party wishes to submit them to the assembly in order to be able to devote the next assemblies to the federal elections.

Better protect the climate

Greens' delegates meet in Emmen (LU) to adopt the party's election platform. This must specify the key points of the Greens program for the next legislature. National Councilors Adèle Thorens and Bastien Girod will present the next steps envisaged by the Greens to better protect the climate. Delegates will also vote on the referendum against tax reform.

The delegates of the PBD meet in Friborg. They will formulate their voting recommendations on the sprawl initiative and the law on tax reform and AHV financing. They should also discuss the framework agreement with the EU, in the presence of Roberto Balzaretti, Secretary of State and Chief Negotiator of Switzerland in Brussels. (Ps / nxp)
