Apple Watch Series 9/Ultra 2: “ghost” touch issues, Apple investigating

Some Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 have an issue with the touch screen, with the watch performing tasks as if the user had pressed the screen. The problem is that this is not the case.

A problem with the touchscreen of the latest Apple Watches

“Some customers may report that their Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 is experiencing false taps on their screen”, can we read in the Apple memo shared with authorized repairers and obtained by MacRumors. Apple says some customers may describe the issue as "phantom" pressures.

According to Apple, this issue may cause the screen of affected Apple Watches to “jump erratically” or exhibit other unexpected behaviors, without any interaction from the user. The memo says the issue may also result in an unintended phone call on the watch and prevent users from entering the device's passcode.

What's going to happen ? In its memo, Apple invites users to always install the latest updates. We can therefore imagine that Apple intends to offer a fix with a future version of watchOS. However, it is not specified when the fix will be released, just as it is not indicated the percentage of users who have the problem.

Apple has asked technicians not to repair affected Apple Watches while the investigation continues. In the meantime, technicians are advised to ask customers who are experiencing this issue to force restart their Apple Watch by holding down the Digital Crown and the side button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
