Justice: Professor Jean Gatsi sentenced for defamation

The Dschang court convicted Professor Jean Gatsi, an eminent jurist and law professor, for defamation following a complaint filed by Professor Joseph Keutcheu. This conviction surprised many observers; The lawyer at the Cameroon Bar, Maître Désiré Sikati, commented on this case.

A law professor who does not respect the law

Master Sikati does not hide his dismay at the behavior of Professor Gatsi. According to him, a law professor must know the legislation in force, including on electronic communications. He deplores that Professor Gatsi used social networks to insult and defame other people, without measuring the consequences of his actions.

Warrant of incarceration and legal costs

In addition to the conviction for defamation, the court also issued a warrant of incarceration against Professor Gatsi. This mandate is linked to the payment of legal costs, in the amount of 2 FCFA, set by the court.
