at least 6 dead and 4 people kidnapped in attack attributed to armed separatists
Testimonies from Bamenyam, a small town in the Galim district, Bamboutos department (Western region) indicate that a market was attacked this morning by armed men. These sources indicate that they are separatist fighters from the neighboring, crisis-ridden region of the North-West. A still unofficial report reports at least six dead and four missing. Many injuries have also been reported.
The Western region regularly suffers the repercussions of the secessionist conflict which has hit the neighboring regions of the North-West and South-West since 2017. Attacks have been recorded several times in the Bamboutos not far from the section of the national road No. 5 which connects Bafoussam, the large city in the West, to Bamenda, the capital of the North-West. Attacks which considerably slowed down the repair work on this road. Border villages are also often attacked.
This is the second mass killing attributed to secessionists in less than a month. On November 6, armed men carried out a night raid on Egbekaw, in the district of Mamfe, South-West region. Results of the attack: 25 dead and many injured.
