Covid-19: "Between 135 and 150 deaths per day" in France and a vaccination rate that remains "insufficient"
Brigitte Autran, immunologist and president of the Health Risk Monitoring and Anticipation Committee (Covars), expressed her concern this Tuesday morning on RMC.
The peak of the 9th wave of Covid-19 was crossed before Christmas, with an incidence rate now in sharp decline in all age groups. Since December 21, it has once again been below 500 cases per 100 inhabitants.
This did not prevent the president of the Committee for monitoring and anticipating health risks (Covars), the immunologist Brigitte Autran, from expressing her concern, this Tuesday, December 27 on RMC. “We still deplore between 135 to 150 deaths per day from Covid”, she informed, referring to the figure of 135 deaths for the day of Monday, December 26.
40% of over 70s received a booster dose
According to the specialist, the coronavirus remains "a disease that is always serious, particularly serious in people who have not been vaccinated or who have not had their booster". And according to the figures she revealed, the new vaccination campaign is still slipping, especially among those over 70. “It is estimated that around 40% of people over 70 have had a recall, which is very insufficient. It is recommended from the age of 60 and open to everyone”, repeated Dr. Autran.
The mask, “a gesture of politeness and respect”
The president of Covars also calls for rediscovering the reflex gesture of the mask, especially in public transport. “The mask must now become a gesture of politeness and respect in public transport and whenever we are in promiscuity. It's good manners, putting on your mask means protecting yourself and protecting others.she added.
