Royal expert: Doria Ragland should accompany Meghan down the aisle

64 year old man has just welcomed the second child of her daughter Meghan into the world, with Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor born Friday in California. Lilibet joins her two-year-old brother Archie Harrison in Meghan's family, alongside their father Prince Harry. Doria is well known for her close relationship with her daughter Meghan and her son-in-law Harry, who has previously spoken of the affection he has for her mother-in-law.

The former makeup artist has remained a constant beacon of support for the couple, especially after their landmark decision to step down from their senior royal duties last year - and cross the pond to the United States.

In addition to a close relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Doria is said to have a sweet connection with the television legend Oprah Winfrey, who interviewed Harry and Meghan for CBS in March.

During their interview, the Sussexes sparked a series of allegations against the Royal Family, including allegations of racism and mental health.

It even led to Harry questioning his brother Prince William and his father Prince Charles, whom he described as being "trapped" inside the monarchy.

While speaking on the show, Oprah and Meghan both admitted that they had wanted to have an interview together, but previous requests had been closed by the cabinet.

Yet before the interview, Oprah was forced to speak out after speculation developed that she had "bribed" Doria to have her daughter interviewed by the broadcaster.

In February, she said she "liked the story" that Oprah was trying to put Doria in her confidence by giving her "gifts".

She added, “Do you know what the gifts were?

“For lunch we had dessert with kumquats and she said, 'I love kumquats,' and I said, 'I have a kumquat tree, do you want kumquats?

“For all the people who said I gave her gifts, I'm trying to bribe her for an interview, they were kumquats. "

The Duchess of Sussex has praised her mother in the past, describing her as her 'best friend', when she was the only member of Meghan's family to attend her wedding to Harry.

Doria was also mentioned during her interview with Oprah on CBS, where Meghan praised her for not speaking out in public, despite the 'obsession' surrounding her family.

She recalled “you never heard [Doria] say a word,” adding that her mother “remained in silent dignity for four years” as she watched her daughter struggle against the pressures of royal life.

Following the explosive interview, reports have resurfaced regarding Doria's comments regarding Harry and Meghan's decision to sever ties with the Royal Family last year.

Citing a desire to lead "financially independent" lives, the couple stepped away from their senior positions and have since made lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix.

And Doria herself was "really worried" about Meghan, an insider said, and was "relieved that her daughter is putting her mental health and well-being first."

The friend told the Daily Mail that Meghan's 'plan' was to 'finally leave the UK and build her own empire with Harry'.

They added right after last year's split: “Doria really wants to be true to herself and so of course she will continue to encourage Meghan to take the road less traveled. "

Harry himself is known to share a close bond with Doria, and reports from last year claimed he even called his stepmother 'mom'.

According to The Sun, another insider described Doria as "an absolute tour de force" - "not just for Meghan but also for Harry".

The source continued, “Obviously he doesn't have a mom to turn to for advice, but he's always been incredibly close to Doria and never more than now.

“Harry has a lot of respect for her and her judgment which is why he and Meghan have both spoken to her throughout what they were planning to do. "

They added: 'She has been the epitome of calm throughout and Meghan and Harry trust her and her judgment 100%. "
