National Assembly: Laying of Foundation for New Building this Thursday


The foundation stone of the new building to host the National Assembly and all its services will be at the site of this Thursday, 12th December 2019. The ceremony will be attended by Cameroonian and Chinese authorities.

The project marks a highpoint in diplomatic and bilateral cooperation between Yaounde and Beijing.

The Chinese government offered to assist in the construction of an ultra-modern structure.

The edifice will be constructed over a total surface area of ​​nine hectares of land at the Ngoa Ekelle neighborhood in Yaoundé.

The project is worth 54.5 billion CFA francs for the construction and equipping. It will be executed within 42 months.

Prior to the laying of the foundation stone, an investment agreement had been signed by both parties in China in May 2019.

The National Assembly, The Mobile Squadron Group Number 1 of the National Gendarmerie and the residence of the President of the Economic and Social Council.

The Gendarmerie brigade and schools found within the area will be relocated.

The edifice on an estimated at 37 500 m2 piece of land upon completion will be understood:

- A hemicycle of 400 seats. The current hemicycle will be converted to a museum

- A building of 14 stories

- One thousand seats capacity hall

- A fire station

- A water treatment plant among others.
